History

Drake Athletics Booster Club was created by a group of dedicated parents and supporters who came together with one shared goal: to support the athletes and families of Drake Athletics All-Star Cheer. What started with a small group of passionate families has grown into a community united by a commitment to helping every athlete have the opportunity to succeed.

Through fundraising, volunteer efforts, and community support, the Booster Club helps offset the costs of competitions, travel, uniforms, and other essential expenses. By working together, we hope to ease the financial burden on families while allowing our athletes to focus on what they love—cheering, competing, growing, and being part of a team.

Drake Athletics All-Star Cheer is a newer program proudly serving the Traverse City area. The program was inspired by the legacy of one of the kindest and most passionate cheerleaders to ever step on the mat—Drake, a cherished member of our Roots team. Tragically, Drake passed away at the age of 16 due to a seizure. His genuine kindness, unwavering dedication, and joyful spirit continue to guide and inspire our community every day.

At Drake Athletics, we strive to honor Drake’s memory by building an environment rooted in compassion, teamwork, perseverance, and community. We believe in treating every athlete and guest with the same warmth and enthusiasm that Drake shared so freely. Through hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for the sport, we continue to carry his spirit forward—together.

The Drake Athletics Booster Club is guided by a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about supporting our athletes and enhancing the All-Star experience. From organizing events to driving fundraising efforts, our leadership team helps make it possible for our athletes to compete at the highest levels.

Shawn Alderman

Shawn is a proud mother of 3 active children and a dedicated supporter of youth athletics. When she’s not working her full-time job or cheering on her children, she enjoys camping and traveling with her family. Shawn is always looking for ways to get involved, give back, and make a positive impact in her community. As part of Drake Athletics Boosters, she is passionate about supporting athletes and helping create opportunities for them to succeed both on and off the competition floor.

Ashley Petroskey

Ashley is a busy mom of 3 and work full time as a surgical dental assistant. 4 years ago she was diagnosed with stage ll Ovarian cancer and since has become the Northern Michigan Awareness Ambassador for a the nonprofit MIOCA (Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance.

She has a true passion for fundraising AND cheer! Ashley is very excited to be working along side the new board to continue to better Drake Athletics boosters! It’s going to be an amazing season!

Alicia Emery

Alicia attends Bay Mills Community College part time while working a full time job. She enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her children, cooking meals and baking cakes. Alicia believes in strong work ethic, kindness and community. “Each one of these athletes and parents have a story that is not ours to understand or judge, but to help support their journey to success "

Nicole Grzech

Nicole Grzech (grr-e-ch), mom to Rori (Dragonfly) and 3-year-old Isla. Her and family recently moved to Traverse City, and has loved joining the cheer community. She's worked in banking since 2014, started out as a branch representative and then moved into mortgages in 2019. She's thrilled to take on the Treasurer position this year and can’t wait to support our team, meet more families, and help raise funds for our kiddos.

Drake Athletics is home to a talented group of All-Star athletes who exemplify hard work, dedication, and passion for their sport. These individuals train year-round, balancing intense practice schedules with academic and personal commitments, all while representing our program with pride and integrity.

Our athletes compete at the highest levels, bringing home regional, national titles. But more than their accolades, it’s their teamwork, discipline, and spirit that define who they are.
